Khawar has over thirty years’ professional experience advising boards and senior management teams in large financial institutions and publicly traded companies based in emerging and developed markets. In his role at IFC, Khawar has managed numerous corporate governance assessments of companies and banks across the MENA region. He has led project teams in analyzing the companies’ current corporate governance practices, developing recommendations for improvement, and defining plans for implementation.

He has also advised various regulators to develop Corporate Governance laws and codes across the MENA region, and, trained more than 250 board directors and executives on these subjects in MENA. Khawar has been chairman, CEO and non-executive director on boards of companies in Europe and MENA.

With extensive years of experience in establishing and heading Communications & CSR departments and advising on Social Impact for leading companies in the Middle East, Lina Hussein has developed a strong professional backbone in her areas of speciality.

Throughout her career, she contributed significantly to the growth of a number of start-ups into market leadership; she has also worked with different sizes of enterprises to help them move from mere business-favoured performance into a more strategic responsible reputation and competitive market positioning.

Designing and managing development programmes between private and public organisations is also a key part of her work and passion.

In recent years, in addition to her duties in heading communication and social impact for a leading social investment initiative in Oman, she has worked closely with micro and small businesses and social enterprises, providing them with advisory and guidance in the area of communication and social impact. She has also architected start-ups support ecosystems, promoted social entrepreneurship, developed and led empirical research studies, and created local and international collaboration platforms.

She holds a Master’s degree in Strategy & Marketing from The University of Warwick in the UK and a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Jordan. She is also a Certified Shared Value Consultant, bringing in latest global best practices in creating strategic social impact through business.
